Sherry McKee was born in a very small town in southern Illinois. She attended Eastern Illinois University,graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Education and a Masters degree in Guidance and Counseling. At the beginning of her Sophomore year, she met her future husband, Gary, in an English class—a Vietnam Marine who was just returning home.
Throughout their 43 years together, Sherry and her husband made it a mission to find and visit historic sites and museums while traveling—especially those lesser known, hard to find gems—gathering information she hoped others might find useful.
After carefully researching and organizing every detail from her notes, the first edition of Museums, Monuments and Memorials was succesfully published in 2025.
