In its original form, Shades of Blue was a prize winner in the Royal Australian Air Force’s 2016 Heritage Awards, and publication of this edition is fully-supported by the Royal Australian Air Force. 

 

Between 2016—and prior to his passing in mid-2018—author John Macdonald continued to work on the content of the book, assisted by many respected historians and institutions, as well as collector friends, distilling and refining their combined encyclopaedic knowledge and reference material into what you see before you today. John Macdonald’s goal was to encapsulate the widest possible breadth of the numerous uniform types worn by the personnel of the RAAF, documenting the various changes made along the way.
